Does getting henna hurt?
General info about henna paste
No there is no pain. Henna is placed on the skin using a cone filled with handmade henna paste and hand drawn techniques, there are NO needles like a tattoo. You will feel a cooling sensation upon application. Henna is 100% natural and any reactions to it are very rare. Since most henna artists put essential oils and sometimes citrus juice into their henna paste, it is recommended that you ask the artist what kind of oils they put into their mix in case you happen to be allergic to any of the oils/citrus juice.
Also if you are pregnant or nursing, please make sure the essential oil in the paste is safe for you. In pregnant or nursing women, lavender is usually used and is safest. It is always recommended that you ask your midwife or doctor first to verify.
At Henna Junkie we use the following in our paste:
Mohanna or Rajasthani Henna powder
Lemon Juice (acidic content releases the dye)
Essential oils: which allows for a relaxing experience as well as allowing the stain to get darker faster
lavender (used with all mixes, and is the sole oil for expectant moms)
cajeput
niaouli
sweet orange
frankincense
myrrh
tea tree
ravensera
cedarwood
palma rosa
geranium
bergamont
ylang ylang
If you would like a custom blend made for when you get your henna done please let us know in advance. We need to know a minimum of 72 hours before your appointment. Many of our clients have commented on the wonderful smell of our henna and says it reminds them of Aveda products.
