I've been doing henna for over 11 years. It all started when I went to a Ren Faire in Ohio. I got a simple design down one finger and LOVED it! I researched more about what henna is and how it works and decided I wanted to learn how to do it.
Thankfully I am already able to draw so teaching myself how to do this art form came more naturally. However drawing with a henna cone or bottle is unlike other art. You don't actually touch the skin, you hover over it and lay your lines down. Kind of like cake decorating.
Some of the main questions I get asked are answered here, however here are some other questions:
- Do you do real tattoos?
No, however I have thought about it, but it would take time to learn that skill and I am focusing my energy elsewhere
- Did you go to school for this?
No, I'm self taught. Most of stuff I have done in my life I have taught myself how to do it. This comes with pros and cons.
Pros - you are learning it at your own pace and develop a style.
Cons - it can take longer to learn, and you may not be doing things they way they should be done
- Can you do a all over henna tan?
No, because your skin varies in thicknesses as well as where clothes will wear/exfoliate more, you would not get an even stain all over your body.
These are just some of the questions I get asked on a regular basis when doing henna at events and parties. :) In this blog I hope to help you understand more about henna and come to appreciate it as much as I do.
